Yarden Muscat 2002 (Floral Typical Sweetish White) - Israel

THE WINE The 2002 Yarden Muscat offers an aromatic blend of orange, floral, vanilla and oak notes: a rich mixture of fruit, perfume and spice. This complex, sweet dessert wine combines great intensity with elegance and drinkability. Yarden Muscat ages well for years with the wine slowly taking on pleasant notes of marmalade and roasted nuts. We enjoy this wine either with dessert or as dessert. Try it with crème brulee, Key lime pie or cheese cake.

THE VINTAGE Between the record-breaking temperatures of July and the record-breaking rains of the last week of October, the 2000 harvest proved a high quality vintage. The fruit came in very evenly over the relatively short eleven-week harvest, starting with Muscat Canelli in the southern Golan and ending with Merlot in the North. Good fruit exposure and lower than average yields combined to give fruit with exceptional flavor. Yarden Muscat is made from Muscat of Alexandria with a small amount of Muscat Canelli. All the fruit comes from the southern Golan Heights. Brandy, oak-aged at our winery for nine months in French Limousin oak barrels, is used to fortify the fermentation, resulting in a dessert wine relatively high in both alcohol and sweetness.

THE ANALYSES Brix at Harvest 23.1, % Alc (v/v) 13.9, TA (g/l) 4.5, PH 3.24, RS SWEET

THE APPELLATION The Galilee (or Galil) is the most northern, and generally considered the best, appellation in Israel. The highest quality area within the appellation is the Golan Heights (or simply the Golan), the coldest region in Israel. The vineyards on this volcanic plateau rise from 400 meters (1,300 feet) above sea level to 1,200 meters (3,900 feet) and receive snowfall in the winter. The Golan Heights Winery is located in the town of Katzrin, in the central Golan.

Golan M. Avital 2002 (Fruity Medium Bodied Red) - Israel

THE WINE The 2002 Golan Mount Avital shows off bright red-purple hues and aromatic fresh berry, cherry, violet and black pepper notes. The wine is medium-bodied and very drinkable. We drink Golan Mount Avital, usually lightly chilled, with a wide range foods including full-flavored fish dishes, dim sum, mixed grilled vegetables or shredded-beef tacos. Golan Mount Avital can be enjoyed over a couple of years from the harvest.

THE VINTAGE Except for an unusually warm February and March, cooler-than-average temperatures dominated the season leading up to the 2002 vintage. The weather caused a protracted season and resulted in a long fifteen week harvest. Picking successfully concluded with Sangiovese from the northern Golan at the end of October. May rains during flowering and two spring heat waves reduced yields by about 20%. The low yields and long hang-time combined to produce wines of very good quality. The 2002 Golan Mount Avital is made from 31% Sangiovese, 30% Pinot Noir, 20% Gamay Noir, 14% Syrah and 5% Napa Gamay. All of the fruit comes from the central and northern Golan Heights, where cool temperatures promote the development of distinct varietal characters. Carbonic maceration, the traditional Beaujolais method, on 10% of the blend adds to the overall complexity and aroma profile of this wine.

Yarden Brut (Refreshing Fragrant Dry Sparkling Wine) - Israel

THE WINE Yarden Brut displays a delicate, yet complex mixture of apples, lemons and hints of red fruits layered with toasty and creamy notes. The fine, yet robust mousse combines nicely with the wines crisp body and finish. Yarden Brut is ready to enjoy and will hold up nicely in the bottle for two to three years. We love cracking open a bottle as guests arrive for a festive meal, served along small canapés, often just a bit on the salty side. Yarden Brut also pairs very well with cold soups, such as sorrel, sushi and grilled fresh seafood.

THE VINTAGE The 1999 season followed an exceptionally dry and relatively warm winter resulting in a harvest beginning two weeks earlier than normal, at the very end of July. Moderate summer and fall temperatures stretched out the vintage to fifteen weeks, finishing on November 4 with Cabernet Sauvignon in the northern Golan. The relaxed pace enabled picking each vineyard block at its optimum. Low-density vine canopies and a lower-than-average crop yielded exceptional color and flavor development. While made mostly from the 1999 vintage, Yarden Brut contains a small amount of older vintages blended in for added complexity. The wine is made from equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and made strictly according to the traditional method, including hand-harvesting, whole-cluster pressing and secondary fermentation in the bottle. Each bottle aged for a minimum of two years before disgorging.

Gamla Muscat 2003 (Fruity Fragrant Refreshing Sweetish White) - Israel

THE WINE Fresh floral, bright citrus, ripe apple and aromatic peppermint notes characterize the 2002 Gamla Muscat Canelli. This wine is medium boiled, with a fresh flavorful finish. A hint of sweetness rounds out the wine´s character. Though best on the young side, this wine will hold up well for a couple of years after the harvester. We enjoy drinking Gamla Muscat Canelli with a few canaps before dinner, or with spicy Asian cuisine.

THE VINTAGE Except for an unsually warm February and March, cooler-than-average temperatures dominated the season leading up to the 2002 vintage. The weather caused a protracted season and resulted in a long fifteen week harvest. Picking successfully concluded with Sungiovese from the Northern Golan at the end of October. May rains during flowering and two spring heat waves reduced yields by about 20%. The low yields and long hang-time combined to produce wines of very good quality. TheGamla Muscat Canelli is 100% varietal, made from fruit coming from vineyards in the southern Golan Heights. A very cold fermentation retains the natural floral character of this variety, while stopping the fermentation just before completion preserves just a bit of residual sweetness.
